CHANTHADETH
Chanthadeth explores the issues of bicultural identity and the feeling of being “in-between.” 19-year-old Chanthadeth Lucky Chanthalangsy is the son of a Lao father and a Cambodian mother, both refugees from the civil war conflicts in Southeast Asia. But Chanthadeth’s parents divorced when he was a child, and he grew up with little contact with his father. Chanthadeth created this film to examine his Cambodian/Lao heritage and the challenges of growing up without an understanding of that heritage. Through this project, Chanthadeth learns to appreciate his parents’ stories and his name. He screened this film at the 2015 “Celebrating Our Heritage” event at Asian Counseling and Referral Service. This film was supported with grants from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Comcast, and the SE Seattle P.E.A.C.E. Coalition.
