MODEL MINORITY STEREOTYPE
By examining the roots, effects, and implications of the model minority stereotype, this film uncovers harmful truths behind this prevalent myth in American society.
This film is based on a 7-minute short created by Minhkennedy Pham for his Seattle Central Community College class. After finishing his film, the Minhkennedy felt that there was much more to explore on this topic and approached the SEAYM group about expanding upon his original concept for a longer film. Minhkennedy and the SEA-YM group worked between 2013 and 2015 to complete this project. Some of Minhkennedy’s original footage is in this final version. This film was screened at Asian Counseling and Referral Service for its 2015 cultural celebration and at several academic conferences and events.
