ACRS joins community call for police accountability in death of Jaahnavi Kandula

ACRS joins community leaders’ demand for accountability in the Seattle Police Department’s handling of the death of Jaahnavi Kandula. Earlier last week, media released a disturbing audio recording that captured the vice president of the Seattle Police Officer Guild (SPOG) making devaluing and dehumanizing comments about Jaahnavi Kandula, a graduate student who was struck and killed by a speeding Seattle Police Department (SPD) vehicle as the officer was responding to an emergency. The content of that recording has captured national attention, outcry, and anger. It continues to raise real concerns about law enforcement, especially here in Seattle where the city was recently released from nearly all the requirements of the federal consent decree.
