ACRS Statement on recent ICE Shootings
Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) is deeply troubled by the recent fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis and by a separate incident in Portland in which federal immigration agents wounded two people. These related events reflect a troubling pattern of the use of force, abuse of power, and disregard for human life by federal immigration authorities across the country. Last year, a record number of 32 individuals died under ICE custody.
The use of lethal force by federal authorities raises urgent and serious concerns about safety, accountability, and lack of guardrails for this administration’s anti-immigrant agenda. Every day immigrant and refugee communities, particularly those who already experience heightened fear, trauma, and barriers to care, are paying the price
We urge policymakers to take immediate action by closely scrutinizing the use of federal resources and rejecting FY2026 funding decisions that expand or perpetuate immigration enforcement practices that put lives at risk.
You can advocate alongside us and urge your Members of Congress to refuse additional funding for ICE and CBP here.
We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect the safety, stability, and well-being of not only the individuals and families we serve but all vulnerable communities.
