ACRS Stands in Solidarity and Defense of Immigrant Communities

 In Announcements, Immigration, Press Releases

Asian Counseling and Referral Service (ACRS) stands in solidarity with individuals, families, and demonstrators in Los Angeles and across the country impacted by recent immigration enforcement actions, including a surge in coordinated raids, and heightened law enforcement activity. As an organization committed to supporting immigrants and refugees, we are deeply concerned about the harm these actions inflict on the dignity, safety, and well-being of our communities.

The deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, along with expansive immigration operations, marks a troubling escalation in the use of government power, particularly in ways that disproportionately target immigrant and refugee communities. Over Memorial Day weekend, 160 individuals were deported to Laos and Vietnam in what is reported to be the largest Southeast Asian deportation in recent history.

These events have caused deep fear, distress, and disruption. Families are being separated, and many are afraid to go to work, school, or even places of worship.

We’re also aware of growing concerns about potential ICE activity in the Seattle area. As a social justice organization rooted in community, ACRS stands firmly with immigrants and refugees, especially those most vulnerable to fear and harm.

We encourage community members to stay informed and prepared. ACRS has compiled Know Your Rights resources to help individuals and families respond safely to immigration enforcement. Visit www.acrs.org/knowyourrights.

Local protests have already taken place in Seattle, with more planned ahead. However individuals choose to show support – marching, attending trainings, sharing trusted information, or contacting elected officials – we encourage everyone to prioritize safety and take action that feels empowering and aligned with their values.

Despite these challenges, ACRS remains steadfast in our mission. We will continue to advocate for humane, fair, and compassionate policies. We affirm our responsibility to:

  • Support efforts to keep families together
  • Call on elected officials to protect the rights and well-being of all communities
  • Provide welcoming, culturally responsive services to those in need

To those affected: You are not alone. We see you. We support you. And we will continue to walk alongside you in the pursuit of safety, stability, and justice.
